The Threads

Embedded in every humans fund
Of unrecognised instincts
Are threads
Rooted in the birth
Of life itself

All that lives
Have threads
To this first glimpse of life

Few of these threads
Are humans only
Most we share with animals
And some with plants

The closer to the first life
The fewer the threads
And the beginning
Is but a single thread

Following these threads
I try to recognise the instincts
And their influence
In our lives
And our deeds

To conceive
How they developed
To support and protect
The life that carried them

Long before man
Mountains rose from the sea
And through slow corrosion
Became clay

With the clay I aim to express
What emerges
In the nebulous
Unwilling recognition
